Brides of India

Brides of India-on a cookie

Portraits of grace and identity.

This collection celebrates the beauty of Indian bridal traditions across regions. Each cookie becomes a portrait, not just of attire, but of cultural pride.

A North Indian bride appears in regal red, her ensemble echoing centuries of ceremony. A South Indian bride wears temple jewellery and jasmine, reflecting devotion and classical elegance. A Bengali bride, crowned with her mukut, radiates auspicious charm. A Maharashtrian bride, adorned with nath and thushi, embodies balance and prosperity.

Every portrait was hand-painted and framed with lace-like icing patterns in vegan royal icing. Jewellery motifs were formed through precision piping. Borders required measured symmetry. Expressions demanded steady hands.

These are not decorative figures.
They are living archives.

Through edible portraiture, Royal icing artist Prachi Dhabal Deb preserves traditional crafts, textiles, and adornment practices. The series reveals how attire carries identity and how ritual shapes representation.

In her journey, this collection deepens her exploration of human storytelling within sugar artistry. Architecture tells one story. Faces tell another.

Heritage, reflected gently.
