Sacred Threads of Union

Three regions. One devotion.
This trilogy of wedding ritual cookies honours the shared sanctity of marriage across Bengal, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu.
The Bengali cookie carries the Topor and Alpana motifs, rendered through intricate piping technique in vegan royal icing. Vermilion tones and symbolic detailing echo auspicious beginnings. The Maharashtrian piece highlights the green saree, haldi-kumkum dibbi, and traditional gold ornaments. The Tamil Nadu design features brass lamps, temple borders, and floral accents drawn from southern ritual vocabulary.
Each element required careful cultural understanding before execution. Colour carries meaning. Objects carry lineage.
The scale is intimate.
The symbolism is vast.
Through this handcrafted edible design, Royal icing artist Prachi Dhabal Deb explores ritual symbolism in art. She demonstrates how contemporary edible art can respectfully interpret tradition without simplifying it.
In her artistic evolution, this work reflects sensitivity. It is not about grandeur. It is about nuance. About honouring diversity while revealing shared devotion.
Three cultures.
One sacred rhythm.
